1901 Illinois Watch Co Hunter – 16s 11j – Grade 172, Model 4 – works great! GF Click images to enlarge Description Amazing 1901 Illinois Watch Co. pocket watch in great working order! According to my research at the Pocket Watch Database, this watch dates to 1901 (serial no 1589414), is a size 16, and has 11 jewels. The serial number also identifies it as a Model 4, Grade 172. The case is a Hunter/Hunting style and is gold filled – it has a very nice design worked in to it! The watch appears to keep great time! I have been tracking it for the last week or so – i wind it every morning, and I have not noticed it running fast or slow. It also appears to be in nice condition overall – it is used and does have some obvious signs of wear, but nothing that is too distracting. I think the main issue is that I believe the crystal has been replaced – it feels & sounds like plastic – but please keep in mind I am no expert, so i am offering my best opinions. I did notice a couple “lumps” at the top of the back case cover (see pic), & matching dings on the inside of that cover. There is some verdigris or corrosion near the movement lever, and in that area around the glass. I also noticed some small letters and numbers scratched into the inside back case cover (see pic). Please see all the pics & judge condition for yourself! All in all a pretty nice example of an antique pocket watch!
