If your JVC VCR shuts down after 3-seconds and flashes “auto,” this unfortunate symptom is often a failed Dynamic Drum system. You can really tell this if you don’t hear the audible “whirl” of the gearing of the dynamic drum when turning your VCR on, because it has effectively siezed up due to one or more failed gears. The 3D printed gearing in this listing supports several “high-end” JVC models including HR-S7600U, HR-S9500U, HR-S9600U, HR-S9800U, and HR-S9900U, along with various European models, all of which don’t use JVC’s older belt driven design. If you’re unsure whether your model is compatible, please send me a message. ***Check out the video included with this listing, showcasing the ‘smooth-as-butter’ operation of the dynamic drum system after being disabled. The DD often seizes up and causes the VCR to shut down. By disabling most of the DD system and using 3D-printed gears, only the essential gears are running smoothly to “trick” the VCR into thinking the DD system is working. Note that this particular DD was completely seized before due to hairline cracks in the gears. I replaced and lubricated necessary gears with strong, newly printed 3D gears.*** What is JVC’s Dynamic Drum?JVC’s Dynamic Drum system was designed for producing smooth slow-motion effects, such as replaying sports recordings. However, this feature has become obsolete in the digital archiving era. Initially innovative, JVC’s execution fell short due to the fragility of the small gears, which are prone to cracking and can cause the system to freeze and shut down the VCR. My approach involves removing unnecessary gearing to reduce the mechanical load, and replacing already failed gears and/or proactively replacing most or all gears to prevent future issues. Disabling the Dynamic Drum system does not impact the video or audio quality. I use custom-designed, high-quality, and fully tested 3D-printed gears to maintain essential functions while largely bypassing the outdated system, ensuring the VCR operates reliably. Full Replacement and Labor Service – $299.99 + $14.95 flat shippingSend in your video drum, and I’ll replace all necessary gears and disable your dynamic drum system. This all-inclusive service offers convenience and professional installation, saving you time and effort. This will require you to remove and send in your VCR’s video drum, which has the Dynamic Drum attached.
