You’ll love owning (or perhaps, giving as a gift) this beautifully restored RCA 45 rpm record player with AM Radio combination manufactured over 74 years ago in August of 1950. This model was in production from 1950 until 1954. The set features the famous All-American Five circuitry with a 2 stage amplifier, automatic record changer and an AM radio. You rarely see a complete restoration of this model offered here. Turn it on, wait half a minute for the tubes to warm up then enjoy that ball game or talk show on the radio or your favorite 45 singles on the record changer. The dark brown Bakelite base has no chips or breaks and has been polished and buffed with very few light scratches. The case is in pretty good shape with very few flaws. Although the On/Off/Tone/Function selector decal is no longer present, I’m including a diagram of the 7 settings. The gold painted inlay on the volume and tuning controls is intact, which is a rarity in this model. The record changer motor board is in amazingly great shape with the original gold finish. It has been polished and buffed to a nice shine. The motor has been totally disassembled, soaked in lacquer thinner for 48 hours to remove old dried and caked oil, and the bearings lubricated to RCA specs (a 3-day process). The motor runs at the proper speed from the moment you start it as checked with a digital tachometer. New rubber motor mounts have been installed.The powerful 5 tube all-American five amplifier and tuner has been serviced with new capacitors, and all resistors checked and replaced if necessary. The tube sockets and volume control have been flushed with DeOxit contact cleaner. The tubes have tested strong on a Sencore TC-142 and deliver superb, rich, room-filling sound to the 5×7 inch speaker in the front. A peak alignment has been performed on the AM radio circuit to ensure accurate tuning and superb sensitivity. Tone is selected for either the radio or the phonograph by a three-position selector knob on the left side of the case.Turntable spindle has been disassembled, cleaned and the bearings lubricated for reliable record changing. The platter has the original gold color ring insert which was only available on very early model runs. Idle wheel has been rebuilt with new rubber by V-M Audio Enthusiasts for accurate speed and smooth operation. Rubber on the change cycle wheel has been replaced with an all new tire for reliable record changing. All internal parts have been cleaned and lubricated where necessary. Tone arm has been polished and buffed and a new modern low riding ceramic cartridge bridged for mono, with 0.7mil diamond stylus has been installed to play your newer stereo records as well as your oldie 45s without damage. Please note that although many of these ceramic cartridges may look the same, they’re not–and you’ll find the cartridges that I use to have superior tracking ability, even for newer stereo records. Tone arm weight has been optimized for accurate tracking yet gentle treatment of your valuable 45 records. The original extra long power cord has been retained for authenticity. As the new owner of this nostalgic gem, I know you’ll enjoy putting on a stack of up to fifteen 45rpm records (depending on thickness and warping) and listening to them as they sounded when 45’s were first introduced by RCA Victor back in the 1950s. As others have noted, you may occasionally find a record that doesn’t drop to the platter properly due to manufacturing variances, but I’ve included instructions on how to remedy this problem. Rest assured this machine will be carefully cushioned, double-boxed and packed with care to arrive in splendid condition.
