This seldom seen vintage 1970’s Perona Caribbean 400 day date diver has a blue “SWISS MADE” signed dial that has aged naturally and uniquely. The original lume on the hands, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has developed a toasted buttermilk patina. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is faintly stamped “INCABLOC – FULL STEEL – CARIBBEAN – SUPERWATERPROOF – AUTOMATIC” with a picture of a fish and “BREV. + DEM. 1588/65” followed by “304” and “36809” stamped in the center. The crystal shows light scratching and chipping. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale I believe the movement on this particular watch is accessed through the crystal. The automatic movement with quickset date function keeps accurate time and the day and date wheels complete rolling over at approximately 1:47 am. The quickset date function works by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between 10 pm and 1 am until the desired date has been reached. After winding the screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had a power reserve of approximately 19 hours. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old, that the power reserve is relatively weak and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm.Given the vintage nature of this watch, that the power reserve is relatively weak and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
